Calling all patients and caregivers!!
Have you ever been afraid that an IBD diagnosis may not allow for higher education? Have you worried about your child’s future and how they are going to achieve their goals and dreams with a chronic illness? As South Asians, there is a distinct pressure many of our students and parents are citing in living with this disease and wanting to achieve dreams and live as full lives as possible.
To help meet this need for our South Asian IBD community, this August, South Asian IBD Alliance joins forces with Improve Care Now to talk more about these challenges and allay any fears. We are here to reassure our community that we can pursue our higher education goals while balancing a complex chronic condition and find our own paths.
We are proud to present our talk titled “Higher Education with IBD: Achieving your Dreams” featuring:
- Dr. Ashish Patel, pediatric IBD specialist from the US, Division Chief at Phoenix Children’s Hospital
- Kajal Patel, pediatric IBD warrior, medical student in Miami, US, and former member of the National Council of College Leaders for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation
- Sharan Khela, pediatric IBD warrior, diagnostic radiographer in the UK and member of SAIA’s Board of Directors
- Madhura Balasubramaniam, IBD warrior, PhD student in India and member of SAIA’s Board of Directors.
- Mahalakshmi Parakala, ICN’s Patient Advisory Council member and an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley, will moderate this panel discussion!
This talk is part of a SAIA-ICN series that brings together patients and clinicians to support and empower our South Asian pediatric IBD patients & their caregivers to take charge and advocate for better care.
